Phasmophobia has surpassed 30 million sales worldwide, marking a major milestone for Kinetic Games as the annual Crimson Eye Halloween event returns with blood moon hunts, seasonal rewards and new challenges.
The co-op horror game, which began life as a solo project before entering Early Access in 2020, has now become a global horror phenomenon across PC and console. The latest milestone comes as Kinetic Games continues to expand the game ahead of its planned 1.0 release in the second half of 2027.
Crimson Eye Returns for Another Halloween
Running until November 1, Crimson Eye gives ghost hunters the chance to take on rotating event maps featuring guaranteed Blood Moon weather. The dangerous conditions make hunts even more difficult, with ghosts moving faster and player sanity draining more quickly, although successful investigations come with increased rewards.
The event maps include Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope, Edgefield Road, Nell’s Diner and Willow Street. Point Hope is available as a Standard map only, with its Restricted version excluded from the event.
Seasonal Rewards and Community Goals
Players can work towards a range of Crimson Eye rewards through both community and personal goals. Community rewards include the Beholder ID Card and Badge and the Blood Moon Trophy.
Personal goals include the Blood Moon Charm, a seasonal event T-shirt and upgrades to the Crimson Eye trophy. Players who have already unlocked the trophy will instead earn points towards their existing trophy.
Twitch Drops are also returning, with players able to unlock a Crimson Eye T-shirt cosmetic by watching two hours of Phasmophobia streams between October 8 and October 15, 2026.
A Double XP and Rewards event will then run from October 15 to October 22, giving investigators boosted rewards for completed investigations.
Phasmophobia Reaches 30 Million Sales
The Crimson Eye event has now been running for three years, with the Blood Moon first introduced to Phasmophobia in 2024. This year’s event arrives alongside the game’s 30 million sales milestone.
Since its Early Access debut, Kinetic Games has continued to expand the game with new haunted locations, additional ghost types, improved player characters and a range of quality-of-life changes shaped by community feedback.
Two major Quality of Life updates released this year brought significant improvements to player characters, customisation and evidence collection, while also introducing additional Restricted maps for faster-paced ghost hunts.
Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games and Game Director for Phasmophobia, said the original goal when developing the game was to sell 1,000 units during its first year. Reaching 30 million sales has therefore far exceeded those initial expectations, with Knight thanking both players and the team that helped grow the game.
Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts Returns
The final week of Crimson Eye will once again support the American Heart Association through Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts, returning from October 26 to November 1.
The Phasmophobia community raised more than $100,000 for the American Heart Association last year, and the charity event is returning for the final week of this year’s Halloween celebrations.
Kinetic Games Expands Into Publishing
The success of Phasmophobia has also allowed Kinetic Games to expand beyond its own game, with the studio launching Kinetic Publishing earlier this year to support independent developers.
The publishing division aims to provide indie teams with the support and resources needed to bring their games to players while allowing developers to retain their creative vision. Its first Kinetic Publishing Showcase took place in August, revealing its initial slate of titles.
The first game from the publishing division is Contact Protocol, a starship job simulator scheduled to launch in Spring 2027.
Phasmophobia 1.0 Is Coming in 2027
With 30 million sales now behind it, Kinetic Games is turning its attention towards the long-awaited Phasmophobia 1.0 release, which is currently planned for the second half of 2027.
From next year, the studio plans to share sneak peeks at the development of the major update, including significant changes to ghost design and the wider gameplay experience.
For now, Crimson Eye is available in Phasmophobia until November 1, giving players another chance to step into the darkness, face the Blood Moon and chase down the game’s latest seasonal rewards.
