The fan-made game, Sonic Robo Blast 2, will be one of the featured games at the upcoming SpeedGaming Marathon for No Kid Hungry’s event on May 13-16. Seasoned Sonic speedrunner, Argick, will be running the game live. Argick will be joined by 70+ runners and over 130 runs from a range of platforms and genres with the goal of raising $30,000 for No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger in America . 1 in 6 kids in America could face hunger this year and every $1 donated can help connect a child with up to 10 meals.
Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been in development since 1998 and recreates classic Sega Genesis era Sonic gameplay in 3D thanks to a modified version of the Doom Legacy source port of Doom. The gameplay features 3D platforming with multiple branching paths encouraging players to explore and find secrets. Levels are set up similar to the classic games: 2 acts of regular levels followed by a third act, which is a boss fight.
The game also offers players the chance to play as Tails or Knuckles offering different abilities to explore and conquer levels. Similar to the games of old, multiplayer is also present in the form of online co-op where a friend tags along in single player from their own PC, split-screen races, capture the flag and more.
Sonic Robo Blast 2 has been growing a larger following over the last few years as the game has received major upgrades bringing the game to an almost complete state. The game has especially found a home in major speed-running communities being featured at events such as SpeedGaming.
