Tuxedo Labs has officially released Relics of Barkuna, the latest expansion for the smash-hit destruction sandbox Teardown. Available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, the new content takes players away from high-speed chases and explosive heists, instead sending them on an adventure through a mysterious lost civilization packed with secrets, puzzles and hidden treasures.
The expansion serves as the fourth and final DLC included as part of the game’s Season Pass, concluding a post-launch content roadmap that has taken players across multiple unique settings and gameplay styles. Whether you’re a long-time fan of Teardown’s physics-driven destruction or simply looking for a fresh excuse to jump back into the game, Relics of Barkuna offers an entirely new standalone campaign built around exploration, discovery and creative problem solving.
A New Adventure Awaits in Barkuna
Unlike some of Teardown’s previous expansions, which focused heavily on vehicles, time travel and science-fiction themes, Relics of Barkuna shifts the spotlight towards exploration and archaeology.
Players take on the role of seasoned explorer James Thorvaldsson, who embarks on a dangerous expedition to uncover the secrets of an ancient civilization hidden deep within the jungles of Barkuna. The ultimate goal is to recover the legendary Great Gem of Barkuna, a priceless treasure said to be buried within the ruins of the long-forgotten culture.
As with the base game, players are given the freedom to approach challenges however they choose. Whether carefully solving environmental puzzles or smashing through obstacles with Teardown’s signature destruction mechanics, success often comes down to creativity and experimentation.
Three Massive New Locations to Explore
The heart of the expansion is its trio of brand-new maps, each offering a distinct environment packed with secrets and challenges.
Players will travel through:
- Jaguar’s Haven – An overgrown jungle region filled with ancient ruins and hidden pathways.
- Eagle’s Perch – Towering cliffside structures that challenge players to navigate vertical environments.
- Serpent’s Hollow – A dangerous underground region featuring volcanic landscapes and flowing lava.
Each location has been designed to encourage exploration, rewarding players who venture off the beaten path and investigate every corner of the environment.
The maps also showcase the impressive voxel-based destruction technology that helped make Teardown such a standout success. Ancient structures can be dismantled piece by piece, opening up alternative routes and revealing secrets hidden beneath centuries of decay.
240 Relics Hidden Throughout the World
Completionists will have plenty to keep them busy.
Tuxedo Labs has hidden an impressive 240 relics throughout Barkuna, turning the expansion into a treasure hunter’s dream. Some collectibles can be found in plain sight, while others require puzzle solving, exploration or clever use of destruction mechanics to uncover.
The large number of collectibles adds significant replay value to the expansion, encouraging players to revisit locations and search every ruin, cave and hidden chamber in pursuit of 100% completion.
Puzzles Meet Destruction
One of the most interesting aspects of Relics of Barkuna is how it combines environmental puzzle-solving with Teardown’s trademark sandbox destruction.
Traditional adventure games often require players to find keys, activate switches or discover hidden routes. While those elements are present here, Teardown’s unique physics engine means there is often more than one solution available.
Need to reach a hidden chamber? You might solve a puzzle designed by the ancient civilization. Alternatively, you could simply tear down part of the structure standing in your way.
This freedom has always been one of Teardown’s greatest strengths, and Relics of Barkuna appears determined to make full use of it.
The Final Chapter of the Season Pass
Relics of Barkuna also marks an important milestone for the game as it completes the content included in Teardown’s Season Pass.
The expansion follows three previous DLC releases:
- Time Campers – A Wild West-inspired adventure with time-travel twists.
- Folkrace – A high-speed expansion centred around vehicles and motorsport action.
- The Greenwash Gambit – A science-fiction campaign featuring gravity-defying technology.
With the release of Relics of Barkuna, Season Pass owners now have access to all four major campaign expansions released for the game.
Changes to Steam Purchasing Options
Alongside today’s launch, Tuxedo Labs has announced changes to how Teardown’s DLC content will be sold on Steam.
With all planned Season Pass content now released, both the Season Pass and Ultimate Edition are being retired from sale on Steam.
To replace them, a new Ultimate Bundle has been introduced. The bundle is designed to make it easier for players to complete their collection by purchasing expansions individually while still providing access to all available content.
Existing owners of the Season Pass or Ultimate Edition will continue to receive access to Relics of Barkuna at no additional cost.
Steam Players Can Grab Teardown at Half Price
To celebrate the release of the new expansion, Teardown’s base game has received a significant discount on Steam.
For a limited time, players can purchase the game with a 50% discount, making it an ideal opportunity for newcomers to experience one of the most unique sandbox games available today.
Since its original release, Teardown has earned praise for its impressive destruction technology, creative mission design and endless sandbox possibilities. The addition of four major campaign expansions has only expanded the amount of content available for players to enjoy.
A Fitting Finale for Teardown’s DLC Journey
While previous expansions pushed Teardown into wildly different genres, Relics of Barkuna feels like a celebration of what makes the game special. Exploration, experimentation, puzzle-solving and large-scale destruction all come together in a new adventure that encourages players to approach challenges however they see fit.
With three expansive maps, hundreds of collectibles, environmental puzzles and the freedom to smash through ancient ruins in search of treasure, the expansion provides a fresh experience while remaining true to the core gameplay that made Teardown a fan favourite.
Whether you’re returning to complete your DLC collection or diving into Barkuna for the very first time, there’s plenty waiting to be discovered beneath the jungle canopy.
