BULKHEAD and publisher Team17 have released Season 2 for WARDOGS, delivering the first major update for the 100-player tactical FPS since its Steam Early Access launch in September.
The update introduces new weapons, vehicles and buildable structures, alongside thunderstorms, gameplay balancing and changes to progression and faction dynamics. The developers say Season 2 reflects feedback and player behaviour observed during the game’s first month in Early Access.
Storms Change the WARDOGS Battlefield
For the first time, players must contend with heavy rain and thunderstorms. These weather conditions affect visibility and sound, creating new tactical opportunities during firefights. Thunder can temporarily mask footsteps, allowing squads to coordinate assaults, flank enemy positions or approach opponents without being heard.
Season 2 also introduces four new weapons, four vehicles and three buildable structures. New military hardware includes the T-72B3 main battle tank and the Flakpanzer Gepard anti-aircraft vehicle, alongside additional defensive fortifications designed to expand the options available to teams.
New Wager Vendor Adds Risk and Reward
Players looking to take a gamble can try the experimental Wager Vendor, which allows them to stake in-game cash on their own performance in exchange for the chance to earn larger payouts.
The update also makes broader changes to combat balance, progression, teamplay and faction dynamics. One notable experiment targets Lonestar, the underperforming blue faction, with exclusive cash and XP incentives intended to encourage more players to join its ranks.
The initiative forms part of BULKHEAD’s ongoing work to refine WARDOGS’ three-faction warfare and respond to how the community is approaching its battles.
BULKHEAD Responds to Early Access Feedback
Joe Brammer, CEO of BULKHEAD, said the community had already found unexpected ways to play WARDOGS while providing direct feedback on areas needing improvement.
He explained that Season 2 puts lessons from the game’s first month into practice, with changes to core systems considered just as important as the new content. The studio plans to continue developing the game alongside its players throughout Early Access.
WARDOGS Passes Three Million Copies Sold
Season 2 arrives after a strong start for the tactical shooter. Since its September 10 Early Access debut, WARDOGS has surpassed three million copies sold and recorded a peak of more than 425,000 concurrent players on Steam.
The update also follows the reveal of the winner of BULKHEAD’s #WARDOGS100K competition. One player received $100,000 in real-world cash for their gameplay clip, selected from thousands of community submissions. A further 99 finalists each received $100,000 in WARDOGS in-game currency, according to the announcement.
With Season 2 now available, BULKHEAD says further content, refinements and updates are planned throughout Early Access.
