UK video game developer Mediatonic and Ukie, the UK’s video game industry trade body, are partnering for a special charity livestream taking place this Friday 18 December.
The event will see familiar faces across the games industry come together to play Mediatonic’s smash hit game Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout to raise money for three mental health charities – Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), Head to Toe and Safe in Our World – supporting people across the UK.
The event is part of the the UK industry’s Play&Talk initiative, which supports the national #LetsTalkLoneliness campaign to encourage people to overcome loneliness by chatting in their favourite games.
One of the names joining the stream is BAFTA award-winning actor Troy Baker, star of The Last of Us, Death Stranding and BioShock Infinite, who was made aware of the work of Head to Toe through the custom controller company Undead Gaming UK.
“Games have such a powerful role to play in improving mental health across the world,” said Troy Baker. “I know this stream will be a lot of fun and our goal is to not only raise lots of money but also awareness of the work that mental health charities are doing across the world. Together we can make a difference to so many lives.”
Gav Murphy from RKG and BBC Broadcaster Elle Osili-Wood are also setting aside some time to join the fun and fundraise when the event kicks off later this week.
You can watch the charity stream this Friday 18 December, between 4pm-6pm GMT on Mediatonic’s official Twitch channel: https://www.twitch.tv/mediatonic
Ukie has also launched, with the support of CALM, a new resource for using games to overcome loneliness this Christmas. You can access it on askaboutgames here: https://www.askaboutgames.com/stayconnectedatchristmas
