Independent Montreal-based studio HeartLoop Games has released its debut game, Poly Fighter, in Early Access on Steam. The single-player roguelike fighting game combines classic one-on-one battles with the unpredictable progression and build experimentation of the roguelike genre.
Players enter a high-stakes underground fighting league in Heartville, taking on opponents, earning their moves and combining abilities to create increasingly powerful fighters. Every run offers opportunities to experiment with different builds, combos and combat strategies.
Build Your Own Fighting Style
At the heart of Poly Fighter is a system that lets players take abilities from defeated opponents and use them to develop their own fighting style. Moves can be swapped, chained and upgraded, opening up a wide range of potential combinations and synergies.
Players can create everything from heavily armoured tanks to aggressive rushdown fighters, zoning specialists and projectile-focused builds. With opponents becoming more powerful as players climb the ranks, adapting each build is key to surviving the underground league and facing its secret bosses.
The game also offers a choice between modern controls designed to be approachable for newcomers and traditional motion inputs for players who prefer a more classic fighting game experience. Combos are intended to be easy to pick up, while the thousands of possible move interactions provide plenty of room for mastery.
A Roguelike Fighting Game Built for Solo Play
Poly Fighter draws inspiration from arcade fighting classics while adding replayable progression and build experimentation. Rather than focusing on ranked ladders or online competition, the game centres on single-player duels, giving players the freedom to test unusual combinations without the pressure of competing against other players online.
Snappy animations and a retro-inspired visual style are paired with a soundtrack designed to complement the game’s fast-paced battles.
Creative Director Osama Dorias described the project as a passion project and a tribute to the fighting games and arcade classics the team grew up playing. The Early Access launch will allow players to experience the game while helping shape its future as development continues.
Poly Fighter Available Now on Steam
Poly Fighter is available now in Early Access on Steam. Players can also join the game’s community on Discord to follow development and get involved as HeartLoop Games continues working on its debut title.
For fans of traditional fighting games who enjoy experimenting with unusual builds, Poly Fighter offers a roguelike spin on the familiar one-on-one formula, with new combinations to discover on every run.
