Digital Extremes has released its latest Soulframe closed alpha update, Preludes 15: Gods & Ghosts, now available for free on PC. The update continues to expand the early experience of the fantasy action title, introducing major changes to progression systems, combat encounters, and social interaction features.
This latest build invites players, known as Envoys, to explore a wide range of new systems including reworked loot mechanics, expanded crafting, and improved quality-of-life updates driven by community feedback.
Reworked Loot and Crafting Systems
One of the biggest changes in Preludes 15 is a complete overhaul of the loot and crafting loop. Enemies now drop fully crafted weapons rather than raw materials, each featuring new “Tempers” — randomized modifiers that add variety and depth to gear progression.
Players can also work with the blacksmith Tuvalkane to forge Ingots, allowing for more refined crafting options and deeper customisation of equipment. The goal of this rework is to expand overall gear variety and make loot feel more meaningful during exploration and combat.
New Social Features: Trading and In-Game Mail
The update also strengthens social systems within Soulframe, introducing gear trading and an in-game mail system. These additions allow players to share rewards, exchange equipment, and send messages across the world of Alca.
These features are designed to encourage cooperation between Envoys, making progression feel more connected and community-driven.
New Enemies, Encounters, and Patrol Systems
Preludes 15 introduces fresh threats across the world, including a new Siege Encounter called Turret Jotar. Enemy patrol behaviours have also been reworked, resulting in more dynamic and unpredictable encounters.
Players will also face new enemy types such as the fearsome Ode’n Caeulam, adding further challenge to exploration and combat scenarios.
Totem System Rework and New Weapons
The Totem system has been significantly reworked, now connecting directly to the three core Virtues: Courage, Spirit, and Grace. Totems now provide stat bonuses and buffs for Pull Smite and Rune Abilities, opening up new build possibilities and more strategic gameplay combinations.
This system also ties into new weapon introductions, including:
- Veilk – Heavy axe
- Ilverac – Long blade
- Vrusht-IX – Heavy mace
These additions further expand build diversity and encourage experimentation with different playstyles.
How to Access Soulframe Preludes
Players can sign up for access to Soulframe Preludes via the official website, where Envoys are selected randomly each week for entry into the closed alpha.
Alternatively, instant access can be unlocked by opting in as a Founder. The test remains an ongoing free PC alpha experience currently being developed by Digital Extremes.
For more information, players can follow official updates via Soulframe’s website, Discord, and social channels including Bluesky, X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, and YouTube. The game can also be wishlisted on Steam for future development updates ahead of its wider PC release.
Final Thoughts
With Preludes 15: Gods & Ghosts, Digital Extremes continues to refine Soulframe into a more socially connected and mechanically deep experience. The overhaul to loot, crafting, and Totem systems shows a clear focus on long-term progression and player-driven experimentation as the game moves through its closed alpha phase.
