KOEI TECMO Europe and Team NINJA have announced that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember will launch worldwide on March 4, 2027.
The sequel to Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox on PC and Steam, and will also be available through Xbox Game Pass from day one.
Alongside the release date announcement, KOEI TECMO has released a new trailer showcasing the sequel’s story and gameplay. An Alpha Demo is also available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox on PC and Steam, giving players an early opportunity to see how the next chapter of the action RPG is shaping up.
Wo Long 2 Takes the Story to 208 AD
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember takes place in China in 208 AD, following the events of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty.
The protagonist’s village is devastated by the forces of Cao Cao as they march towards Jing Province, plunging the region further into war while demons roam freely across the land.
Seeking revenge, the protagonist first joins Liu Bei in his battle against Cao Cao’s forces before travelling to Jiangdong, where they reunite with Pang Tong. Together, they begin working on a plan to repel Cao Cao as he turns his attention towards the coming Battle of the Red Cliffs.
Faster Combat and New Insight Skills
Team NINJA is bringing back the fast-paced combat of the original Wo Long while introducing new systems and abilities designed to give players more options during battles.
One of the major additions is the Insight Skills system. These abilities allow players to evade incoming attacks, use the surrounding terrain to their advantage and launch counterattacks.
The system can also be used to shift the momentum of a battle when players find themselves surrounded, adding another layer to Wo Long’s combination of attack and defence.
The result is intended to make combat more acrobatic and give players additional ways to approach encounters, particularly when facing larger groups of enemies.
Dynamic Open Fields and Three Kingdoms Battles
Wo Long 2 also expands the series with larger, dynamic open fields based around iconic battles from the Three Kingdoms period.
Players will be able to explore locations inspired by battles including the Battle of Changban and the Battle of the Red Cliffs, with environments ranging from mountain fortresses to strongholds hidden within valleys.
Morale will once again play an important role in surviving the demon-infested battlefield. Players can recruit enemy officers to their side, weakening opposing forces in the process, while different battlefield strategies can be used to change the course of encounters.
Wo Long 2 Alpha Demo Available Now
Players can get an early look at Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember through the Alpha Demo, which is available from now until September 30, 2026.
The demo includes an early version of the game’s character creation system and supports online multiplayer for up to three players.
Players can explore the open field of Changban, fight alongside Liu Bei’s army against Cao Cao’s pursuing forces and encounter demons inspired by Chinese mythology and classic literature.
Those who complete the demo will also receive the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet, which can be used in the full game when it launches. Players will also be able to provide feedback through a survey after completing the demo.
Wo Long 2 Digital Deluxe Edition
A Digital Deluxe Edition will also be available for players who want additional content. It includes the base game, Season Pass and the Season Pass Bonus: Creator God Armor Set.
The Digital Deluxe Edition also contains a Digital Artbook, Digital Mini Soundtrack and Shitieshou Hat.
Players purchasing Wo Long 2 in either physical or digital format will receive the Harvest God Armor Set as an early purchase bonus.
Those who pre-order any digital edition before March 4, 2027 will also receive the Creator Goddess Garb Set as a digital pre-order bonus.
Wo Long 2 Release Date
Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember is scheduled to launch worldwide on March 4, 2027, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox on PC and Steam.
The game will also be available through Xbox Game Pass on day one.
For those wanting an early look, the Alpha Demo is available now until September 30, giving players a chance to experience the Changban battlefield and some of the sequel’s new combat systems ahead of its full release.
