Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has announced Digimon Story Time Stranger A Hero’s Eternal Legacy, a new expansion that will take players back into the world of Digimon Story Time Stranger for an entirely new adventure.
Set three years after the climactic battle between the Agents and the Olympos XII, the expansion will take players beyond the events of the original game and into the unexplored regions of Iliad, the Digital World at the heart of the story.
A Hero’s Eternal Legacy is currently scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC.

A New Hero, A New Adventure
Rather than simply continuing the original adventure with the same story beats, A Hero’s Eternal Legacy introduces a new hero and sets out to tell a fresh story centred around the familiar Digimon themes of courage, friendship and discovering what it really means to become a legend.
Players will venture into previously unexplored areas of Iliad, encountering new characters, new challenges and more than 50 additional Digimon along the way.
That number alone should get the attention of anyone who spent a considerable amount of time building their perfect Digimon team in Digimon Story Time Stranger. More than 50 new Digimon gives players plenty of potential additions to experiment with, particularly if the expansion introduces new combinations and strategies for the RPG’s combat and progression systems.
Three Years After the Battle
The decision to jump forward three years also gives the expansion an interesting starting point.
The original Digimon Story Time Stranger centred around a conflict threatening both the human world and Iliad, eventually bringing players into a confrontation with the Olympos XII. A Hero’s Eternal Legacy moves the story beyond that conflict, allowing the world and its characters to exist in the aftermath rather than simply revisiting the same crisis.
Exactly what has happened during those three years remains largely under wraps for now, but that time jump creates plenty of room for new characters, new conflicts and surprises that could have a meaningful impact on both worlds.
More of Iliad to Explore
For fans of the original game, perhaps the most exciting aspect of the announcement is the promise of unexplored territory within Iliad.
The Digital World has always been one of the biggest attractions of the Digimon Story series, and expanding the playable world gives A Hero’s Eternal Legacy an opportunity to introduce environments and Digimon that players simply haven’t encountered before.
With more than 50 new Digimon confirmed, exploration should also have a much bigger payoff. Discovering a new area is one thing; stumbling across a Digimon you’ve never seen before and immediately wondering how it can fit into your team is another.

Digimon Story Time Stranger Returns in 2027

The original Digimon Story Time Stranger is already available across the same platforms, combining traditional RPG progression and turn-based combat with the ability to build relationships with Digimon while travelling between the human world and Iliad.
IGC Take: 50+ New Digimon Is the Magic Number
There isn’t a huge amount of detail about A Hero’s Eternal Legacy yet, but there are two things that immediately stand out: the three-year time jump and more than 50 new Digimon.
The time jump gives Bandai Namco plenty of freedom to tell a genuinely new story instead of simply extending the ending of the original game. More importantly, heading into previously unexplored areas of Iliad should give returning players something they haven’t already seen.
And then there’s those 50-plus Digimon.
Let’s be honest, that’s probably the bit that will have the community digging out their favourite team-building spreadsheets. Digimon has always been at its best when collecting, evolving and experimenting with different creatures becomes just as addictive as progressing the story, so adding another 50-plus candidates could give the expansion a serious amount of replay value.
There’s still plenty we don’t know, including how large this new adventure will be and exactly how it will integrate with the original game’s progression. But a new hero, an unexplored part of Iliad and a sizeable collection of new Digimon is certainly enough to make A Hero’s Eternal Legacy one to watch in 2027.
After saving two worlds, apparently our reward is being told there are another 50 Digimon to collect. Honestly, we were probably going to do that anyway.
