Hack ‘n’ Stack, the chaotic new co-op party game from Quebec-based independent studio Triple Boris and its publishing label Dodo Tako, is available now on Steam for PC and Mac and Nintendo Switch, priced at $19.99 USD.
Supporting up to four players locally or online, Hack ‘n’ Stack combines tower defence with physics-driven chaos. Players must gather resources, build walls and turrets, and protect their installations against increasingly dangerous waves of enemies. The catch? Almost anything can become a weapon, including the people you’re supposed to be working with.
Build a Fortress, Then Throw Your Friends
At its core, Hack ‘n’ Stack is about working together to survive enemy attacks, but cooperation can quickly fall apart when the fighting gets intense. Players can throw blocks at enemies, turn stunned opponents into weapons and, when everything goes wrong, launch their own teammates into the action.
The physics-driven gameplay encourages players to experiment with whatever objects are available. Building a strong defence is important, but sometimes the best plan is to grab whatever is nearby and throw it at the problem.
With up to four players able to join the madness through local split-screen or online co-op, the game looks set to offer plenty of opportunities for teamwork, terrible decisions and blaming your friends when everything inevitably goes wrong.
24 Levels, Four Animal Heroes and Hundreds of Customisation Options
Hack ‘n’ Stack features 24 levels spread across four distinct environments: forests, villages, coastlines and mountains. Each setting introduces its own enemies and challenges, requiring players to adapt their defences as the difficulty increases.
There are four playable anthropomorphic animal characters to choose from, with more than 750 combinations of hats and weapons available for customisation. Five enemy types also stand between players and survival, ranging from smaller invaders to heavily armoured giants with different behaviours.
The game features a handcrafted cartoon art style with detailed textures, giving its chaotic battles a distinctive look.
Community Feedback Helped Shape the Launch
Before release, Hack ‘n’ Stack was available as a free demo during Steam Next Fest, allowing thousands of players to try the game and provide feedback. Triple Boris says that feedback directly influenced the final adjustments made ahead of launch.
Simon Dansereau, Co-Founder and CEO of Triple Boris, said: “In an industry where player expectations are constantly evolving, our ability to stay agile is essential. Feedback from our community plays a key role in the development of our games.”
