It looks like Capcom may be preparing one of the biggest eras in Resident Evil history.
Following the enormous success of Resident Evil Requiem, multiple reports, insider claims, and community leaks suggest the publisher has mapped out the franchise years in advance. While none of the upcoming projects beyond officially announced content have been confirmed by Capcom itself, the amount of smoke surrounding these rumours is becoming impossible for horror fans to ignore.
And honestly? If even half of these reports are true, Resident Evil fans are about to eat very well over the next five years.
Resident Evil Requiem Has Become a Huge Success for Capcom
Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the franchise, officially launched in February 2026 and quickly became one of the series’ biggest commercial hits.
Capcom confirmed the game surpassed 5 million sales shortly after release before climbing beyond 6 million units worldwide. The publisher also confirmed ongoing support and additional content for the game moving forward.
The game introduced a darker survival horror tone once again while blending cinematic action with the classic tension the franchise is known for. Critics and players largely praised the return to horror-heavy gameplay, helping Requiem become one of the fastest-selling entries in series history.
Capcom has already released the free “Leon Must Die Forever” roguelike mini-game update for Requiem, showing the company is far from finished with post-launch support.
Code Veronica Remake Reportedly Next in Line
The project generating the biggest excitement right now is the heavily rumoured Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake.
According to multiple reports tied to well-known insider Dusk Golem, the remake is allegedly the next major Resident Evil project scheduled for reveal, with many expecting an announcement during Summer Game Fest 2026.
Several leaks claim the remake has been in development for years and could launch as early as 2027. Rumours also suggest the game is being handled by some of the same creative talent behind the hugely successful Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 4 Remake.
For long-time fans, this would be a massive moment for the franchise.
Code Veronica has remained one of the most requested remakes ever since Capcom rebooted the series with the RE2 remake back in 2019. The game originally launched in 2000 and played a huge role in the franchise storyline, particularly for Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, and Albert Wesker.
Unlike some earlier rumours surrounding Resident Evil remakes, recent insider chatter suggests Capcom is allegedly aiming to preserve much of the original game rather than heavily cutting content. That will likely come as a relief for fans still frustrated by missing areas and moments in the Resident Evil 3 remake.
Resident Evil Zero Remake Could Follow
Reports also suggest that Resident Evil Zero is getting the remake treatment.
Currently operating under the rumoured codename “Project Chambers,” the game is allegedly targeting a 2028 release window. Leaks claim motion capture work may have already started years ago, although Capcom has not officially acknowledged the project.
Resident Evil Zero originally released in 2002 and served as a prequel to the first game, focusing on Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen aboard the infamous Ecliptic Express.
While Zero has always divided fans due to its partner-swapping mechanics and item management systems, many believe a modern remake could massively improve the experience while keeping the darker atmosphere intact.
A New Resident Evil 1 Remake Could Be Happening Too
Perhaps the wildest rumour of them all is that Capcom may already be developing yet another remake of the original Resident Evil.
The alleged project, internally referred to as “Project Fallen,” would reportedly rebuild the Spencer Mansion horror classic from the ground up using Capcom’s newer technology.
Although the original game already received a beloved remake back in 2002, newer fans who entered the franchise through the modern over-the-shoulder remakes have long wanted to see the mansion incident recreated with contemporary gameplay and visuals.
Rumours currently suggest the project is targeting the franchise’s 35th anniversary in 2031, making it one of Capcom’s longer-term plans.
If true, it would likely become one of the most anticipated horror remakes ever made.
Resident Evil 10 Could Bring Back Claire Redfield
Leaks also point toward the future beyond remakes.
According to insider reports, Resident Evil 10 is already in development under the codename “Project Redlife” and may feature Claire Redfield as the central protagonist.
The game is reportedly aiming for a 2029 release and could utilise Capcom’s next-generation REX Engine technology.
While details remain extremely limited, fans are already excited about the possibility of Claire finally returning to the spotlight in a major numbered entry after spending years mostly appearing in spin-offs, animated films, and remakes.
With Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Ethan Winters all having major moments across recent titles, many players feel Claire deserves another full mainline adventure.
Take Every Leak With Caution
As exciting as all of this sounds, it is important to remember that most of these projects remain rumours for now.
Outside of officially announced support for Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom has not formally confirmed Code Veronica Remake, Resident Evil Zero Remake, Resident Evil 10, or the reported Resident Evil 1 re-remake.
Some rumours surrounding Requiem DLC have already been debunked by insiders themselves, showing that not every leak floating around online is accurate.
Still, given Capcom’s recent success with the franchise and the consistent stream of insider chatter appearing across multiple sources, it certainly feels like the publisher has major plans for Resident Evil’s future.
And if Summer Game Fest 2026 really does bring the return of Code Veronica, horror fans may be about to witness the next huge chapter in Capcom’s survival horror revival.
