We have had plenty of headsets here at IGC but now we get to take a look at the new Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset. When playing video games, we often might not apricate the effort that goes into the audio. Some games are elevated by their sound, soundtrack, and voice acting and what better way to take it all in than with a headset that allows you to experience the game in all the right ways.
I have had several headsets over the years, all for different platforms. When the PlayStation 5 was released, I picked it up with the Pulse 3D headset, I thought at the time that this would be the only headset I’d need but then I saw the Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset and decided that another addition to the collection wouldn’t hurt. It comes in two colours, White and Black, I got my hands on the White version of the headset and couldn’t wait to take them for a spin.
First Impressions
My first impressions of the headset were positive. It was well-designed, sturdy, and comfortable. One thing I noticed and liked about the headset was that it is officially licensed for PS5 so it had the logo on it, this means that when I put it next to the Console it will look like part of the team rather than a sub on the bench.
Another thing that stood out to me was that the headset is made from 85% recycled plastics, I love the ethical ness behind this as it contributes to the fight against climate change. It came well packaged in the box and was simple enough to set up. It was surprisingly comfortable the first time I put it on and I didn’t feel like my head was getting squeezed between two vices. Then after the first big game session, I know that it was the right comfort, size, and shape for my head.
This headset was brilliant, it had good audio and the mic quality was fantastic. I liked the padding on the headband and the soft over-ear pads, this was one of the things that I also liked on the Pulse 3D headset.
The on-ear volume control and microphone mute were nicely located on the headset and were easily accessible when needed while gaming. The only thing missing for me was the RGB lighting but we all know how much of a sucker I am for flashing lights on my gaming accessories, like I have mentioned before this isn’t a deal breaker and something that would put me off the overall product.
Need a headset for your PlayStation 5?
I would highly recommend this product for your PlayStation consoles, it works with the PS5 and PS4 which for me is a win-win as I still have my PS4 which I play now and then. It can also be used on my PC even though it’s not considered to be compatible or endorsed. With the detachable 1.2mm long 3.5mm cable it can easily be swapped between the devices with ease and doesn’t require a huge setup process.
The addition of the detachable microphone is a welcomed bonus, when I’m using a headset but playing single-player games the mic can just feel like it’s in the way but having the ability to remove it on the Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset is great. It also means that it’s easy to store away when you are finished with it and don’t have to worry about the mic being damaged.
The Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset audio quality was good for a mid-ranged headset, I loved playing the Dead Space remake with these on as you could hear everything and had me on the edge of my seat. When playing with friends I could hear them perfectly fine and they also said that I sounded clear and crispy which when playing multiplayer games is important when you are talking tactics and trying to tell my friends which building the sweats are hiding in on Fortnite and Call of Duty.
While wearing the headset it did a good job at blocking out the outside world. I couldn’t hear people when they were trying to talk to me which could be seen as a good thing if you are in the zone but a bad thing if your fiancée has been calling you and it comes across as you are ignoring her. I also noticed that while wearing the headset it does a good job of containing the sound and the people in the same room don’t have to hear what’s going on in the game or the annoying twelve-year-olds who are talking smack about you while gaming online.
I use a different headset while playing games on my PC but it was nice being able to have another option in case my current one breaks. For a headset that says it isn’t PC compatible tested nor endorsed it did a good job and worked really well. This headset kept getting better the more I used it and when I looked at the price online it makes me realise that you don’t need an expensive headset to get the best experience on the market.

Closing Statement
In conclusion, the Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset headset is great value for money for an officially licensed PS5 headset. You can pick one up from Argos for £34.99 or Smyths Toys & Very for £39.99, which is a reasonable price for the quality of this headset. It ticks all the right boxes to be a good gaming headset and was surprisingly comfortable wearing it.
The detachable microphone is handy because you don’t always need it if you are playing Single Player games, comparing it to the Pulse 3D headset I find myself leaning more towards the Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset as personally I feel like it’s more comfortable. The audio on the Pulse 3D might be better quality and it has the bonus of being wireless but neither the less the Trust GXT 498 Forta Gaming Headset is a low-budget gaming headset that will be perfect for any PlayStation owner and for these reasons I’m giving the headset a score of 9 out of 10.
