Bohemia Interactive has released DayZ Badlands, the largest expansion in the history of DayZ. Available now on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, the expansion introduces Nasdara, a vast new region filled with drought-stricken wilderness, abandoned industrial sites and forgotten settlements where the environment can be just as dangerous as the infected.
Covering an enormous 267km², Nasdara is a new terrain built specifically for DayZ, set in the westernmost part of Takistan. The region bears the scars of conflicts between global powers, with oil industry ruins, major roads, border crossings and abandoned settlements scattered across its arid landscape.
Survival here demands more than scavenging supplies and keeping the infected at bay. Extreme heat, drought and sandstorms introduce additional dangers, forcing players to plan their journeys carefully and manage their resources. Water is particularly important, providing hydration while also helping survivors cool down in the punishing conditions.
Rebuild Ruins and Discover Underground Bunkers
One of the expansion’s major additions is a rebuilding system, allowing players to restore ruined houses, wells and entrances to irrigation tunnels. These locations can become useful shelters and sources of resources, giving survivors more reasons to explore and work together.
The condition of these structures can vary between servers, creating different opportunities for communities to establish themselves and leave their mark on Nasdara.
Exploration also extends beneath the surface. A new terrain-hole system opens access to irrigation tunnels, road tunnels and underground bunkers. These hidden locations can contain valuable loot, but finding an entrance is only part of the challenge.
Radio transmissions using Morse code can provide coordinates and access codes needed to enter urban bunkers, rewarding players who pay attention to the information they uncover.
Motorbikes Offer a New Way to Cross Nasdara
With 267km² of harsh terrain to traverse, travelling on foot could be a lengthy and dangerous undertaking. Motorbikes provide a new way to cover the enormous distances, although the region’s environmental hazards mean that preparation remains essential.
The expansion also introduces regional weapons, clothing, food and other equipment inspired by Nasdara’s setting and history. New wildlife includes mouflon, desert monitors and two varieties of dogs that guard areas associated with their former owners.
DayZ Update 1.30 Brings More Improvements
DayZ Badlands launches alongside Update 1.30, which brings additional content and improvements to the base game. Alongside motorbikes, players can expect additional firearms and assets, quality-of-life changes and further enhancements.
The update also expands possibilities for the modding community. Changes to animation systems and the introduction of the terrain-hole system give modders additional tools and opportunities to create new experiences.
