I ate Jam just the other day, on my daily toast, Raspberry Jam, it was rather nice and tasty. The other day I had a new Jam product arrive, I tryed spreading the jam on my toast, not much joy there, tried eating it, not very tasty and impossible. Then I looked at the package ‘’Jam Storm Wireless Speaker’, 1 week has passed and the product has not spoken, think it could be broken. Went back to the package again, I missed the text and logo of Bluetooth, so I got a tooth and painted it blue, waiting another week and still nothing, what am I doing wrong. Then one day while searching my mobile phone I seen this logo, it looked like the same logo for Bluetooth, I clicked on it and up popped the speaker as an option, clicked it and the phone and speaker synced up, then BOOM Bass was in the place as I played the music on my phone and the sound came through the speaker, it’s finally working.
With the intro done and you know what we are reviewing, but just incase it’s the Bluetooth Jam Storm Wireless Speaker. The speaker comes in a rather delightful case, well thought out and well designed. When looking at the product from the front you are able to view the speaker on the left, so you can see the quality of the unit, size and design before purchasing.
One of the biggest claims the product shouts out about is the EXPLOSIVE BASE, Jam also use the image of a storm cloud on the centre button of the speaker. When you turn the speaker around, to view the back of the product you get hit with the words ‘BRING ON THE STORM’ with all the following statements;
- INCREDIBLE SOUND QUAILITY High performance drivers for crisp, powerful sound
- EXCLUSIVE STORM FEATURE Adds explosive base at the touch of a button
- BLUETOOTH Wireless up to 10 metres
- RECHARGEABLE Up to 12 hours of play time
- SPEAKERPHONE Move from music to calls
- VOICE INSTRUCTIONS Guides you through the pairing process
Opening up the package you get a user manual, a must read if you wish to use this product, the Speaker, a pin to that pokes the device a few times and allows you to choose the language you wish to have the speaker talk to you in. The power adapter, which is also the charger allows for UK plugs and European plugs, thanks to its unique design.
Right down to what everyone is here to read, is this speaker any good?
Well its not as good as the Goodman Base I recently reviewed, then again, it’s also not as big as the base and its fully portable, you would find it rather hard using the Goodmans base as a portable device, it is damn huge and needs its own power supply.
The Wireless Jam Storm Speaker has been created with mobility at its core, with it’s quick charge time, up to 12hrs of battery life and its size. I decided to hook the device up to my HTC One mobile phone, it’s the only device that I have with my current music selection on it for cycling. Just clear up the facts, I have used other mobile speakers in the past and have been rather un-impressed with what was on offer, so I was hoping for more with the Jam Storm, especially with all the hype the firm was pushing about the speaker on it’s website.
The sound quality was great, the speaker hit the right levels, however, what about this so called BASE, or what Jam says ‘BIG SOUND, EVEN BIGGER BASE’. For a mobile speaker, it has more pushes out more base than anything else I have ever reviewed, used or own, exception of the ‘Goodman Base’. The user controls on the speaker, makes it very easy to skip, stop, play, volume up/down and pause your music. The buttons do not require any significant force to use and are clearly labelled.
Connecting up the device to any Bluetooth device is easy and the voice prompts from the speaker confirms when the unit is ready to pair, when its pairing and when it’s connected.
Using the device he device as a speakerphone is, what you expect, voices come through very clear and switching from speaker for music to speakerphone is without doubt easy.
I took the speaker out with me, to a local gathering of friends on a local beach front, instead of using our car radios, we used the speaker, everyone was rather impressed by the sound quality, and the amount of base it managed to produce for such a small speaker. They questioned the price 49.99 on Amazon (13.04.2015) RRP $99.99, and were presently surprised, they said, they could not see them paying the RRP but the current price is well worth it.
So down to the nitty gritty, what do I think of the speaker, would I recommended it, it’s not really a hard decision, portability, playtime, sound quality and base all in one little package, with great controls, where this goes, there will always be a storm brewing. The Base will be pumping, the shocks will be thrilling, it will be electrifying.
