Mice, Mouse, what ever you call them, we as PC gamers are always looking for them, with so many out there and so much choice, how do we find the perfect one for us?
For me, I have to admit, I have gone for Razer, why, customisation and quality, the one I use right now is the Razer Chroma Naga Wireless, from this point on though, you are going to be surprised by what I am going to say, about this new mouse, as it has made stand up and pay attention to Mionix.
The Castor is by far one of the best, yes I said ‘BEST’ gaming mouse I have come across for such a low price of $69.99, Est price in the UK £59.99 and what it delivers for the price is outstanding. The first thing that stands out is the sale of the product, no plastic cheap sales packaging here, a perfectly well designed box, with minimal information, even though I stat minimal, all the basics are there. On the side of the box it states ‘IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CRAFTSMANSHIP’, and from where I am sitting writing this review, they are bang on. Come on, how many mouse boxes come with a rope handle to carry around your new mouse with… None if I recall right, just a small added extra that makes all the difference.
These are the specs:
- Up to 10000DPI with 3 steps in-game DPI adjustment
- 6 fully programmable buttons
- Grip friendly soft touch rubber coating (4 layers)
- 32bit ARM Processor running at 32Mhz
- Right handed truly ergonomic design
- 2 integrated LEDs in 2 colour zones, with Up to 16.8 Million LED colour options, and effect ranging from Colour shift, Solid, Blinking, Pulsating and Breathing effects.
- On-board memory 128 KB built-in memory
- Gold Plated, Full speed USB 2.0 connection with Plug and Play
- Cable 2m long braided cable
I am not going to waffle on, this time about the box, blah blah crap, let make it simple, the mouse is well packed, protected and you will be very impressed. * Also comes with Minonx Sticks, oh yeah, out come the big guns… STICKERS!
Holding this mouse in the palm of your hand feels perfect, its ergonomic design for the right hand user is perfect, its not too big or too small, and going from the Chromo Naga to the Castor is bloody awesome, it feels much, much better to use. Of course the biggest change is the amount of programmable buttons, which is not a problem for many of us gamers. I tend to program all my games into the side buttons of the Chroma and I normally only program a maximum of 7 buttons, using all 12 never really happens.
Moving to 6 buttons is not a problem for me, well then again it would be, why? Well, there are 6 buttons in total and all can be re-programmed, but the left and right click buttons you would not wish to change, even though you can, and the on the fly DPI button you possibly would not change either. This leaves just 3 buttons, the centre mouse click button and the two side buttons, for me, that’s a huge drop in buttons, but looking back, what did I do before I had the Chroma Naga, I just used the keyboard more, so on that note stuff the extra buttons on the Naga, does this mouse perform well or not.
Simple answer here, yes, would you use the 10K DPI, OMG not a chance, I have an issue with my mouse running at 3K DPI, currently its set to 2.4 to 2.6DPI, which is perfect, even, though everyone that uses my mouse thinks that it is way too sensitive. Can you image them with this mouse set at 10K, they would not know how to use the mouse or even control it, to be honest neither would I.
Everything like technical is control via the software which is needed to be downloaded via Mionix website and its free, via this you can control everything from the polling rate ranging from, lets do per page
Mouse settings
- Polling Rate from 125kHz to 1000kHz,
- Double click speed,
- Scroll speed
- Pointer acceleration
- Configure mouse buttons
Sensor performance
- Adjust DPI settings
- Enable X and Y separate settings
- Pointer speed
- Life distance
- Surface quality analyser tool
Colour settings
- Turn LED’s on or off or selective (mouse wheel or logo)
- LED effects
- Basic Colour choices
- RGB Colour code input
You then have macro creation and support.
I love this mouse and I cannot stat it more happily, they have taken many concepts and ideas from its competitors, but why not, games do it all the time, and what’s that old term, ‘if its not broken don’t try and fix it’. The ergonomic design comes from Razer (My opinion, based on the mice I own) the lighting effects can be seen with Steelseries and Razer. The quality of the material used, in the construction of this mouse can be seen in the high end gaming peripherals as well.
There is nothing that needs to be improved to make this mouse perform better, everything is here and works great, feel, touch, grip, quality, design, the bling effect, everything is here and for once I can say, Mionix, I am watching you, don’t let me down and keep this up.
This is a must have mouse for anyone that is looking for a mind blowing, high performance, high quality, bling effect mouse, that simply does the job for any avid gamer, either on a budget or has the cash to splash. This is my spare mouse now and there is no way I would swap it for something else, not quite yet anyways.
This mouse get’s a top whack 5/5, damn Mionix, keep this up and you will be with the best, don’t keep it up, then feel the floor, fast, as you hit it at 10.000DPI.
