Frontier has been keeping me busy recently with their DLC releases. First with the Camp Cretaceous DLC for Jurassic World Evolution 2 and now with the Wetlands Animal Pack in Planet Zoo. I love park building games and Frontier has been by far the best company for these types of games since I got my hands on Planet Coaster from there, they have taken me on a Rollacoaster (sorry for the pun) a journey with their creativity and passion for these types of Simulation games.
The recent pack is now available on Steam for an asking price of £7.99. For fans, it will be a joyous time as you will be able to welcome seven new habitat animals and one new exhibit animal to your zoos. Like the name suggests this DLC pack is heavily influenced by Wetlands Animals, crazy right, wonder what gave that away. Here is the list for readers to see what animals you will be able to welcome to your zoos with this pack:
Habitat Animals:
- Capybara
- Platypus
- Asian Small-Clawed Otter
- Spectacled Caiman
- Wild Water Buffalo
- Red-Crowned Crane
- Nile Lechwe
Exhibit Animal:
- Danube Crested Newt
Not only do we get eight new animals we get some water-themed enrichment items that add more personality to your enclosures and animals. We have the new Hot Water Tap, Natural Water Jet and Underwater Buoy items that really show off the new animals that come with this DLC as well as bringing new toys for current residents that you have in your zoos. We also get the small Underwater Feeder which looks amazing when you see animals interact with them. Just based on the new animals and enrichment items I would say that I’m happy with what this pack contains but the fun doesn’t stop there as it comes with an all-new Challenge scenario. You will head to the Brazilian Pantanal, which is a natural region that encompasses the world’s largest flooded grasslands. There you will use your zoo management knowledge to help out an animal sanctuary. I love playing through the Challenge scenario’s so the fact that we get another one with this DLC is fantastic and gives me more gameplay to sink my teeth into.
I haven’t really played much Planet Zoo in the last few months as other games have taken up my gaming time but once I started playing Jurassic World Evolution 2 again with the recent DLC pack it got me back into the whole park/zoo building mode. So, I got my creative cap on and started building a new zoo just in time to hype myself up for the new DLC pack. The only thing that bugs me with these types of games is that a lot of them become DLC packs after the launch. I mean Frontier does offer a lot of free updates that add new features and assets to Planet Zoo but there are currently nine DLC packs, ten if you include the Deluxe Upgrade pack if you didn’t get it at launch. If you are invested in Planet Zoo then the odd £7.99 here and there isn’t really a problem but if you are across multiple games like I am them it starts to rack up quite a big amount. I suppose you don’t have to buy the DLC packs but I feel like you do miss out if you don’t as some of the animals that come in the packs are awesome and I love just watching the animals come to life in my Zoos as Frontier has done a beautiful job at capturing the pure essence of all the animals they have worked on. The Wetlands Animal pack does focus mainly on the eight animals it brings to the table and I’m more than happy to pay £7.99 to have the opportunity to have these in my Zoo. It feels like an added bonus to get the extra enrichment items and the new challenge scenario, if you love Planet Zoo and have been following its epic journey to where it is today then you’d probably not even need to read this coverage as you would have already bought the DLC pack but if you are on the fence about whether it is worth your time, I’m here to tell you that it is. The Wetlands Animals are super cute and watching them interact with the new enrichment items and new underwater feeders is incredible. Frontier keep delivering with their games and I can’t wait to see what other delights they might have in store in the future for Planet Zoo.
